Impact
The following is a summarized report of the VEC Trust's activities and achievements from the financial years 2014-15 to 2024-25, organized into five key areas:
1. Educational and Training Program: Over 350 farmers trained in vocational skills (fishery, organic farming, mushroom cultivation) and provided free tuition to underprivileged children.
2. Employment Generation: Nearly 9,000 labour-days created through VECT Bio-Farm and sustainable agriculture projects (2014-2025).
3. Support to Underprivileged: Around 14,800 plates of nutritious food served through the Monthly Nutritious Lunch Program (MNLP) by March 2025.
4. Promote Tribal and Ethnic Culture: Over 10 specialised cultural programs are organised to preserve and promote local folk arts, including Kaathi-Naach, Chhou and Santali Dance.
5. Research Works: 9 research articles published (including Scopus-indexed journals) and 8 papers/presentations made in national and international seminars.


VEC Trust Activities and Achievements Report

2014-15
Established the VECT Mushroom Cultivation Training Centre at Gunnath. Organised a mushroom workshop for 10 farmers. Organised Annual Sports Meet 2014 (20 events, 100 participants) and provided physical training (20 underprivileged children). Organised a Cloth Donation Camp (50 poor women) and a picnic party (20 children). Provided financial aid (Rs. 15,000/-) to Mr. Shibaprasad Mandal for the establishment of a leaf-plate manufacturing unit. Researched inter-state migratory agricultural labourers. Coordinated a Santali dance program that featured 50 artists.
2015-16
Launched the Monthly Nutritious Lunch Program (MNLP), feeding an average of 150 people per month. Started a pilot organic farming project, generating 100 labour-days. Conducted a Health & Hygiene Seminar (70 children) and a Yoga camp (20 children). Organised an in-house mushroom cultivation project and one workshop that inspired 25 youths. Organised a Nach-Kathi program on Independence Day to boost ethnic culture. Undertook new research on the socio-economic impacts of the livelihood of tribal seasonal migrants.
2016-17
Restructured sustainable agriculture into six production areas (fruits/vegetables, fisheries, mushrooms, vermicompost, medicinal plants, and livestock). Generated 400 labour days through vegetable farming. MNLP capacity increased to 200 plates per month. Conducted a Mushroom Cultivation Workshop (15 youths), Fishery training (20 villagers), and a Health & Hygiene Camp (200 villagers). Organised Balika Sangeet (Manasa Mangal), a dying performing art. The Secretary presented a research paper on seasonal tribal migratory labourers (National Seminar); New research on the impact of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme ( MDMS) at primary schools was undertaken. Donated a desktop computer to Mr. Prakash Bhuin for rural IT services.
2017-18
MNLP served nearly 300 plates per month. Inaugurated the Fakir Bandh Fishery Project and initiated the Vermicompost project. Conducted a 2-Day fishery training (25 fish farmers) and a Mushroom Cultivation Workshop (35 youths). Generated 400 labour-days (agriculture) and 60 labour-days (vermicompost). Staged a Yatrapala named ‘Naachmahal’ during Diwali. Provided financial aid (Rs. 10,000/- seed money) to Mr. Kaushik Bhuin for a mushroom cultivation farm. Research papers presented at national and international seminars on migratory tribes and MDMS impact; New research undertaken on Dom and Bauri communities.
2018-19
Inaugurated the Swamy Vivekananda Yoga and Meditation Centre. Conducted 2-Day fishery training on Multilevel Fish-Cropping (40 farmers) and a Mushroom Cultivation Workshop (25 youths). Conducted two dedicated Health Camps (one for women, one for children, 156 beneficiaries total); Distributed sanitary napkins to 36 women. Began the plantation program by planting 90 coconut trees. Generated 460 labour days (agriculture/vermicompost). Distributed 9 kilos of red wigglers free to farmers. Paper on MDMS impact published; New research project on NRHM intervention undertaken. Staged a Yatrapala named ‘Padadhwani’.
2019-20
Activities under sustainable agriculture brought under one umbrella: VECT Bio-Farm. Generated 500 labour days and established Balika Krishi Udyan (200 fruit trees planted: mango and papaya). Conducted a Fishery training program and a Vermicompost Preparation Camp (75 farmers total). Organized a Cloth Donation Camp (new clothes to 50 distressed women); Raised Rs. 15,000/- for a poor patient. Organized a Pala Kirtan program (Ms. Krishna Chakraborty). Secretary awarded Ph.D. Degree; Paper presented on NRHM intervention (International Seminar). * Organized a 'Health by Yoga' camp for women.
2020-21
Provided essential food-items donation camp to 200 distressed people due to COVID-19. Provided Free Tuition (free schooling) to 20 underprivileged primary school children for four months. Organised Home Visit Campaign to 400 households to explain the COVID-19 Protocol. Generated 1000 labour-days; Introduced Multilayer Vegetable Farming (MVF). Two research articles published in UGC-listed CARE journals on NRHM intervention; Secretary invited as Resource Person to two International FDP/Webinars. Celebrated Bhadu Festival; Organised Baul Sangeet.
2021-22
Conducted Four COVID-19 Awareness Camps, distributing 1,500 kits (masks/soap). Conducted state-level Webinar (sponsored by NCW) on Unequal Pay: Gender Discrimination (126 participants). Provided Free Tuition for 30 primary school children; organised fishery training (40 farmers). Generated about 1500 labour days; Established VECT Medicinal Plants Garden. Organised Kaathi-Naach program and sponsored Pala-Kirtan. Supported the KAPF annual para sports competition.
2022-23
Generated about 1600 labour days; Undertook Plantation of 400 tropical trees at Gobindpur village. VECT Medicinal Plants Garden benefited over 100 visitors. MNLP served 1500 plates; Distributed Educational Aids to 40 selected school children. Two research papers published, including one in a Scopus-indexed journal. Organized Chhou-Dance Program (Orang tribal community of Purulia); Sponsored Baul-Gaan Program. Provided Community Support (legal advice, government scheme applications).
2023-24
Generated about 1500 labour days; Introduced Drip irrigation in the MVF project to conserve water. VECT Medicinal Plants Garden benefited more than 120 patients. The Secretary conducted a 3-Day National Workshop on Structured Equation Modelling (SEM) as a Resource Person; Two research papers published. Organized Santali Dance Program, Pala-Keertan, and sponsored Tusu Festival. Team provided support to resolve local disputes and litigations concerning land, property, and communal issues. MNLP served 1500 plates; Provided Educational Aid donations for 50 primary school children.
2024-25
Generated about 1500 labour days. Distributed 120 saplings through the “Plant for Mother” campaign. Conducted Two fishery training programs (Fingerling Crop Production/Nourishment) for 40 local fish farmers. Organised Mental Health awareness (30 teenage girls) and Spiritual Health Awareness Program (50 people). Organised a Cloth Donation Camp (new sarees to 40 women) and joined a Food/Cloth Donation for 130 street dwellers/children. Sponsored and organised a Baul Sangeet Program (1000 attendees). One research paper published on adolescent girls’ health.
